Date: Thu, 27 Nov 1997 17:38:46 +0900 From: Daniel Long Subject: Big Bang In the OED, the first citation for Big Bang is this one. If this is the actual coinage of the word, it looks like a very uneventful one. Anyone have any ideas? (This is the kinda thing that keep a certain New Yorker up all night thumbing through obscure physics journals!) 1950 F. Hoyle Nature of Universe v. 102 One [idea] was that the Universe started its life a finite time ago in a single huge explosion... This *big bang idea seemed to me to be unsatisfactory.
