Subject: Gettysburg

Dear ADSers,

I have recently seen the movie `Gettysburg' with Tom Berenger, Martin

Sheen, and Jeff Daniels. I think the movie is very accurate

historically, but I am wondering how well the actors did in representing

the accents of their characters-- i.e. Maine (the Chamberlain's),

Virginia (Armistead, Lee and Pickett), and South Carolina/Alabama

(Longstreet).

Would anyone who has seen the movie and knows a bit about the accents

which are represented in the movie care to make any comments about their

accuracy?

This is probably a two-pronged question. As the Battle of Gettysburg took

place 132 years ago, it would be important to address how well the actors

represented the accents of 1863. In other words, what changes have taken

place since then? Thanks in advance for any comments.
