I always figured that the name had to do with the fact that the knives came in a case or chest with the other utensils. He grew up in Weimar, Texas, a settlement of Czechs and Germans. His paternal grandmother's people were Germans. He used case knives as screwdrivers, chisels, and hot irons for melting plastic together. Consequently, our case knives always had peculiar bends, twists, and burns in the points.
