A week or so ago, there was a comment on "Brooklynese" pronuncations of
'third', 'join', etc. The initial thread lay there lifeless, not even
able
to aspire to b---thongness. ...

Ok - thread continues. In my youth in Brooklyn, I definitely remember our
Jr. High School principal making announcements to the "Boys and Goyls." I
have no memory of the Bunker "terlet," though. (Winthrop Jr. High,
1956-58)

More still: my late uncle from Brooklyn always referred to his son, Gordie,
as "Goidy." Odd, it rhymed with "toidy," and I never heard him say "terlet."
