Here's another reference for the teenage exclamation "Cool beans!":
Paul Dickson: _Slang_, (subtitle) _The Authoritative Topic-By-Topic
Dictionary of American Lingoes From All Walks Of Life_, NY: Simon &
Schuster. revised edition, 1998. --p.388 says:
"COOL BEANS. (Merriam-Webster. Midwest) Great, very pleasing."

Incidentally, _Current Slang_ (a publication of the University of South
Dakota) Cumulation of vols. 3-4 (1968-1970), edited by Stephen Dill and
Donald Bebeau, does not mention COOL BEANS but does give "BEANS, n.
Money.--College students, both sexes, Kansas." -----Might "cool beans"
originally have referred to cold cash? This is only a guess.
