So "the Heights" for "Washington Heights" is a recent development>

(I'm only 31, and grew up in Queens, so I can't speak to what it

was being called more than, say, 10 years ago, except to note that

my mother said "Washington Heights" (she lived there for a few years

in the late 1940s).
