Subject: Re: Wind-chill factor

Impressionistically, I seem to recall "wind-chill index", quoted on winter

weather reports in the Northeast and based on some forgotten algorithm, as

predating the wind-chill factor, but I may be confusing it with its summer

counterpart, the discomfort (heat x humidity) index. Not to say that one

doesn't suffer some discomfort when it's 10 degrees and the wind is blowing.

I wonder what the first citation of the mondegreen "windshield factor"

is--we could let the Canadians claim that one, eh?
