How old is the folk song, "Polly Wolly Doodle"? ("Oh I went down
south for to see my Sal, Singin' Polly Wolly Doodle all the day...")
the expression's been around at least that long. As far as it
belonging strictly to AAVE, I think the song has a verse about
blonde hair and blue eyes- but I could be mistaken. It's been awhile...
